I went looking for the best sandwiches in Sioux Falls, and the hunt led me from a French-inspired bakery to a butcher shop that dates back to 1883. I visited each spot in person. Three made the list, and each has its own take on the sandwich.

Sandwich Spots in Sioux Falls

  • A stack of thick focaccia slices showing an airy, open crumb at North End Bakery & Deli

    North End Bakery & Deli

    421 N Phillips Ave
    Sioux Falls

North End is a French-inspired bakery with rustic bread and laminated pastries, and it's proud of its sourdough, made with a traditional, slow fermentation process. Connor and his wife opened it in May 2024, and they've been pulling 80+ hour weeks to make their dream a reality. I'd order the Egg and Cheese on focaccia or the Classic BLT. It's open for breakfast and lunch, with paid street parking nearby.

  • Raw steaks and cuts of beef laid out on a tray at Look's Marketplace

    Look's Marketplace

    500 E 69th St
    Sioux Falls

Look's goes back to 1883, when Carl Look and his brother opened it as a butcher shop, and it has stayed in a close circle of family and employees ever since. Today it's a bustling food hub where people are shopping, eating, and talking. The sandwiches are hand crafted with local produce, so try the Hot Italian or the Lobster Roll, and expect portions big enough for leftovers.

  • A sandwich piled with arugula and meat next to potato chips at Bread & Circus Kitchen

    Bread & Circus Kitchen

    600 N Main Ave, Suite 10
    Sioux Falls

Bread & Circus opened in 2017, started by friends Jordan and Barry, and there's no such thing as basic on this menu. Everything is built around the idea of soup, salad, and sandwich, with global flavors and an emphasis on local ingredients. I'd order the Korean Katsu or the Bulgogi Cheesesteak, and there are weekly lunch specials.
