Hope you are having a great start to the week! We are a week out from school starting again so do enjoy all the fun events this week. Today, I also celebrate another year round the beautiful sun and can I just say "What a beautiful year it was." So much more to do this coming year and hoping to move forward by creating wonderful things for the community.
I also want to thank you pet owners for sending in your beautiful pets. We've received quite a lot and they're all just so cute! If you would like to feature your pets at some point in the future, be sure to send us a picture of your pet to get them highlighted as Sioux Falls', "Pet Of The Week".

Did you know that The Sculpture Walk of Sioux Falls is the largest annual exhibit of public sculptures in the entire world?
And that exhibit is about to grow! The Sculpture Walk Art Call is open to sculpture artists near and far to add their touch on the streets of Sioux Falls!
Applications Must be submitted by October 1st, 2025.

"Inn" The Good Ol' Days: A Look Into The Past of a Local Historical Marker.
Arguably one of the most important businesses to the development of Sioux Falls, The Cataract Hotel Empire began in 1871 on the northwest corner of 9th Street and Phillips Avenue.
Founded by William Henry Corson, "The Cataract" actually has nothing to do with an eye condition and refers to a large and powerful waterfall.
He recognized the need for temporary housing for the influx of travelers arriving in Sioux Falls by railroad.
Between 1871 and 1901, a total of three Cataract Hotels stood in the city. Complete with a ballroom, dining hall, and coffee shop, the Cataract empire quickly became a staple in the rapidly growing downtown area.
Fun Fact: Hotel rates in 1882 started at $2.00 per day!
On April 6th, 1903, Theadore Roosevelt stood on the balcony of The Cataract Hotel on his Country Tour.
Over the years, the hotels saw major changes, including the addition of a fourth floor, expansions into surrounding buildings, and multiple renovations, such as the mid-century facelifts Sioux Falls experienced in the 1950s.
Some of the hotel buildings themselves experienced not one, but two devastating fires. One of which was sparked by a local firework that burned the building to the ground.
Another fell to the spell of urban development in the 1970s, where once stood a luxurious stop for traveling businessmen, today there is a parking lot.
However, there is one still standing. The very first Cataract Hotel, now called the Phillips House. Some debate the Phillips House is the oldest, still standing building in Sioux Falls.
To this day, The Cataract Hotel (Phillips House) still provides housing to locals in its service as an apartment building.

Then: Fires and urban changes removed The Cataract Hotel from Downtown Sioux Falls.
Now: New developments continue to replace the old.

Today marks a day of celebration for the man who started All Things Sioux Falls with a vision and made it reality. Happy birthday Godwin, the founder of All Things Sioux Falls!
